Ok, so I really meant to post this yesterday but didn't get around to it. So here it is.
I had a pretty relaxing Sunday I went out to my parents and was able to play with hot, molten metal all afternoon. I did learn two things though, after you get done cutting something with the torch its not a good idea to step on it right away. I was cutting tabs off of some metal and had quite a few to do so I just had them all lined up and was going down the line and they were just falling to the floor. I must have stepped on the one I just got done cutting with the heel of my boot because when I looked down again my foot was smoking, nothing was hurt, there is just a small chunk missing out of my boot.
I also learned that batteries help out lots when you are using one of those fancy auto-darkening helmets. I was working along and couldn't figure out why I couldn't see anything out of my helmet. So I started playing with it and it wouldn't stay on after I turned it on, so I found some new batteries and it worked much better after that, I could actually see what I was trying to weld. I know some of you can probably weld with your eyes shut, but I'm not that good yet ;)...
Oh I guess I could say what I was working on. We are building a ramp for my Grandma out in Wauneta, so I was able to use nice new steel to work with. I forgot how nice it is to weld on new stuff rather than the rusty old iron that I am used to... I do have to give the credit for the ramp design to my uncle Don (I hope you don't have the patent on it...) because we pretty much copied your design that you used at Grandpa Knorr's house.
I will try and post a picture of it when we finally get it done.
